Montgomery County Early College History

Founded in 2017, Montgomery County Early College (MCEC) is located on the campus of Montgomery Community College (MCC). MCEC is a non-traditional public high school that is part of the North Carolina Cooperative Innovative High Schools Program. Each year, MCEC enrolls approximately 50 new freshmen and serves students in grades 9 - 13. MCEC strives to maintain a diverse student population representative of the student population of Montgomery County.  MCEC ranks as one of the top schools in North Carolina. MCEC’s first graduating class crossed the stage in 2020. Each year, a majority of our graduating seniors earn an Associate Degree and/or CTE Certificate(s) from Montgomery Community College in addition to their high school diploma.

All MCEC students take honors-level high school courses and college-level courses. MCEC provides students the opportunity to earn, tuition-free, two years of college credit or an Associate Degree in four or five years while simultaneously earning a high school diploma. Students may earn one of the following Associate degrees from Montgomery Community College:

 Associate in Arts

 Associate in Science

 Associate in Engineering

 Associate in Industrial Maintenance

 Associate in Arts/Science in Teacher Preparation

 as well as CTE Certifications
